Parade to show off Philadelphia’s diversity

The 2016 Philadelphia Mummers Parade steps off on Friday with a new Philadelphia Division designed to reflect the city’s cultural and ethnic diversity.

The Mummers Parade begins at City Hall at 9 a.m. More than 10,000 Mummers will strut and dance down Broad Street. The parade route will take the performing groups to Washington Avenue.

The parade features six divisions. The first groups to march come from the newly established Philadelphia Division.

Next comes the Fancy Division, followed by the Wenches. Then it’s the Comics. Finally, there will be 17 string bands. Interspersed among the string bands will be the Fancy Brigades, following their noon performance at the Pennsylvania Convention Center.

Tickets for the Fancy Brigade finale at the Pennsylvania Convention Center, 11th and Arch streets, are available at www.comcasttix.com or by calling 1–800–298–4200. Tickets can also be purchased at the Independence Visitor Center.
